Describe the project. I am the owner of a full-time fishing school in Dresden / Germany and at the same time I work as a manager, principal, lecturer, teacher and pedagogue in this school. My teaching activity relates in particular to the subject area of biology. In addition, I cooperate with state schools and teach biology at these schools as well and also media education. The methodology and didactics of my teaching are largely based on elements of experiential education. As an example, a high practical relevance in the form of field trips can be mentioned here.
Is it a current project or was it completed? when was it completed? This has been an ongoing project for many years.
What did you learn? I have learned and experienced responsibility, creativity, management, leadership, pedagogy, teaching, psychology, biology, fisheries biology, media education, experiential education and many other fields of work and interest as part of the lifelong learning process.
How did you apply your knowledge in the project? Based on my positive attitude towards a lifelong learning process and the empathic contact with people, I was able to apply and convey my experiential knowledge as well as my specialized knowledge on the one hand and to constantly deepen the application knowledge gained through teaching experiences as well as reflections on the other hand.
Write about the implementation of the project. Did everything go smoothly? It is completely normal that when working with people, every day, every minute, even every second is a challenge with processes that are difficult to plan in terms of psychology and social work. In this respect, it is very important in my profession and project to measure success by the well-being of colleagues and students. Perfection is not always a given, of course, and that is a good thing. In the end, you learn for the future from defeats. In summary, I am very satisfied.
How does this project relate to your major at AIU? My main subject taught is biology, which is identical to my chosen major of biology.
What is the most valuable skill that you developed in the project? How did you develop it: Teaching the subject matter of biology with a lot of empathy, absolute enthusiasm, extensive practical references and the feedback from the student side as well as their consideration have top priority for me.
